It's prolly that someone is trying to detain Ira and Regan after the death of Rurik so that the vampires can attack them! And then Regan is all like, "I could crack your skull from here" and the guys is like "WOAH RUN!!!!"

Regan's unconscious and such. The story is told from his first-person PoV. So that line, no matter who says it, can't be until after he wakes up again.
